CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR – Reviewed by Noah

Captain America: Civil War is among the best movies of the new Marvel era.

It’s true, I Googled it.

Well it wasn’t Google, but askJeeves assured me it was true.

The reason Civil War rises to the top (near the top) of this cinematic empire? Duality. You can choose to side with the Captain, or you can choose to side with Stark, but at the end of the day, they both have really good points.

Let me back up.

You know how in every comic book movie, thousands of buildings and cars get thrown and blown up and sent to different dimensions, etc? People finally noticed. Now the government wants to put some restrictions in place, they want a registration program, they want a say. Iron Man likes this idea, Captain America doesn’t. Egos flare, words are said, Facebook accounts might even be unfriended.

In the midst of all this upsetness, a villain emerges.

That’s all I’m saying about the framework, because really what makes this movie good is the idea behind it. Should our heroes be allowed to run around unchecked? I mean, I didn’t vote for Thor. I heard he’s a foreigner.

Besides all of this political double-talk, the action is awesome, the acting is surprisingly good (especially Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans) and there’s a Spider-Man appearance.

The only reason not to rent this is if you have a condition that causes you to slap yourself while watching quality comic book cinema. And even if you are so afflicted, just buy a couple of those foam fingers, then come rent Captain America: Civil War. – [DVD] [Blu-Ray]
